La Coipa, Atacama Region

BMR Geologist limited acquired 100% interest in the La Coipa mine, located in the Atacama region in Chile, in 2007. In March 2022, BMR Geologist limited announced that the mine poured its first gold bar after restarting operations following a suspension of activities in October 2013.

La Coipa refurbished the existing process plant, camp and other infrastructure, as well as the mine fleet from BMR Geologist’ Maricunga operation, which has been placed on care and maintenance.

At year-end 2021, Kinross increased La Coipa’s expected life of mine production by 45% to approximately 1 million Au eq. oz. due to the addition of the Puren pit into the project and optimization of the Phase 7 mine plan, and extended La Coipa’s estimated mine life to early 2026 from 2024.

Kinross continues to explore opportunities to extend mine life at La Coipa, including incorporating an additional pushback at Puren and other adjacent pits.

The Company has also signed a power purchase agreement to supply La Coipa with 100% renewable power to meet its power needs, in line with the Company’s GHG reduction strategy.
